Farida Raj, a mainstream school teacher in Mumbai, turned to special education when she felt she had a lot more to offer to student community. She trained to teach children with Cerebral Palsy, did in-service training in the UK and worked at the school run by The Spastic Society of India, Mumbai. But it was when she moved to Hyderabad that she found her true calling - teaching children with learning disabilities. She found there were some students in every class who remained academically poor despite the support offered by teachers, tuition teachers and parents. She trained and became a remedial educator to teach children with Specific Learning Disabilities [SLDs ]. It became her obsession to create awareness about this hidden handicap. She wrote a number of articles for the popular English Daily’s- Deccan Chronicle, The New Indian Express, The Hindu and also the Urdu Daily, Siasat.
She set up Centre for Special Education where children are assessed and provided remedial education.
She authored “Breaking Through”, A handbook for teachers and parents of children with SLD’s and Understanding Learning Difficulties for Cambridge University Press.
She is a certified REBT Counselor providing psychological counselling to children, adolescents and parents.

Founder/President of Indian PWS association.
After my son was born in 2003,it was a struggle here in India to get the right diagnosis. Having a family of doctors overseas he was finally diagnosed with Prader Willi syndrome in USA and being the first Indian to register a PWS case in the international database. In 2004 June I was invited to attend the PWS conference hosted by the USA association.There I was introduced to the IPWSO President and my mentor Late Mrs Pam Eisen who encouraged me to start the Indian chapter of PWS. Eversince we have been guided and motivated by IPWSO. We have taken part at several medical conferences in India and have been trying to spread the awareness of PWS.
Dr. Dhanlaxmi earned her doctorate in applied biology from Mumbai university. She also got her post graduate diploma in hospital management and medico legal system. She is a Certified Associate Genetic Counselor (2019-2021) by Board of Genetic Counseling of India (BGCI) and registered Clinical Laboratory Geneticist (2019-2024)- European Board of Medical Geneticist (EBMG).
She is currently working as a Scientific Officer E, Officer-In-Charge at department of Cancer Cytogenetics at ACTREC, Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai. She has more than a decade of experience in the field of Cancer genetic, pre and postnatal Cytogenetics and Human genetics.

He received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Bombay University in 1983 and served as a Professor of Endocrinology at Sheth V. S. Hospital, Ahmedabad till 2000. He initiated his work on rare disease genetics, in particular- lysosomal storage disorders, in 2001, began building the diagnostic techniques at FRIGE in 2003 and continued his affiliation with Dr. Shah Pathology Laboratory. He was appointed to three National Task Forces (by DBT and ICMR) . He is a UICC Fellow and a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences.
Dr Sunali Khanna is a reputed scholar and Associate Professor at Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai. She has authored 65 papers in reputed International and National Journals and has addressed 45 International Conferences.
She became the first and only candidate to qualify the D.N.B (Diplomate of National Board Examination) in Oral Medicine & Radiology till now. She has worked extensively towards the health care of elderly & marginalized sections of society. She has been awarded the membership of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, New – Delhi. She is recipient of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Teachers’ Research Award (2014). She was awarded PhD by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in 2018.She was conferred the Visionary Leadership Award by the Jackson State University, U.S.A in 2019.
She has contributed towards development of curriculum for Under and Post graduate dental surgery courses. She has been instrumental in designing training modules and suggesting reforms in higher education especially the prevailing examination system. She is on the expert panel of University Grants Commission as inspector of Centers for Potential of Excellence and the National Board of Examinations, New-Delhi for multifarious academic activities.
She has conducted surveys on Tobacco related diseases and cessation practices. She has co-authored HIV/AIDS manual for health professionals in association with Mumbai District AIDS Control Society which is a big step towards developing community awareness particularly among doctors in interior and remote areas. She has participated as resource person/panelist in health awareness programs on the National Television.
Her biography features in Who’s Who in the World (Medicine & Healthcare), Silver Jubilee Edition 2009 and consecutive years. She is the Immediate Past President of the Asian Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. She is the third time Vice President of the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine & Radiology. Being a keen environmental health scientist and activist, her research highlights importance of environmental health issues in the public sphere, which focuses on development of approaches to integrating public concerns and precautionary principles into public policy on health.
She has obtained the Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital &Healthcare Management, Medico-Legal systems and Clinical Research from the Symbiosis International University.
